Haute-Vienne

The property is nestled in a peaceful rural hamlet, just 2km from the village of Gorre.  The local restaurant, Le Relais du Gorre, provides an authentic French lunch for approximately €15 each.  There are lovely walks and cycle tracks from the doorstep of the property and multiple close by locations for fishing  (have a look at Three Oaks website www.three-oaks-lake.webs.com, they can provide you with rods etc.)

We are perfectly situated 20 minutes south of Limoges Bellegarde airport and close to the RN21 for road travellers.  We are 15 minutes from Chalus, where the famous Richard the Lionheart died, and 25 minutes from Limoges where there is some wonderful architecture to be seen and lots of shopping and restaurants.  There are supermarkets and boulangeries approximately 10 minutes away.  There is even a baguette machine in Gorre that is replenished 3 times a day!

There is a lot to see and do in the area and these are a few.  You will find lots more in your info pack at the Gite.

LOCAL TOWNS AND CITIES

Limoges

Lots of shops and restaurants and architecture to view, quaint little alleys to explore and the Railway station is well worth a visit.

Piegut Pluvier

An extremely large and busy market is held on Wednesdays in the summer.  You can buy anything from plants to poultry.  There are lots of cafes for refreshments and icecreams, where you can sit and watch the world go by.

Chalus

Richard the Lionheart died here and there is a trail of the crusade that you can follow by car and visit the castle where he died.

Brantome

Lovely scenic town with lots to offer.  A large market is held on Fridays and there are shops and restaurants on the rivers edge.  The Benedictine Abbey is superb and this along with the old stone bridge, weir and pretty mill, now a hotel and restaurant, all make for a photogenic scene.  Look inside the Abbey, built by Charlemagne in 769, and at the troglodyte section behind the Abbey including the cave of the 'Last Judgement'.  These are the remains of the original Abbey and during the summer you can do a night-time visit of the very atmospheric troglodyte section.

Perigeux

LOCAL CHATEAUS
